Firstly go through the application form and understand what all things are required to be mentioned. I would suggest to copy all the questions to a document wherein you will write your answers. Make of note of all the things that you need to work on for your application to stand out. Look for past scholarship recipients on LinkedIn and if you have any.
Answer Writing Tips
Since word limit is not mentioned for the essay questions, try to write the answers not too short and not too long. What I have done is firstly I wrote my answers on the document and got them reviewed(very important) by two people. Please don’t add the document link to the answer sections instead write your answers there. So, I have pasted my answers in space provided and it was not accepting answer after some word limit. Then try to make your answers concise and if you feel any of the point is being missed out you can say that in the video. Don’t copy content from Internet, answer the questions in your own words stating your experience(very important) with respect to the question. Try not to write repetitive statements. You can add links to your answers(like if you have contributed to any of the Github project, you can provide links for your pull requests and commits).
First question asks about your passion about technology………this is the question where you can show how passionate you are towards technology and its advancement and at the same time give instances of your involvement.
Answer to first question example- If there is a question about technology, try to explain why are you fascinated about technology, your past experience(examples), current situations you are in where technologies play a major role(I have added a scenario of COVID-19 pandemic solution). Then what are your visions and particularly the role you will play and your contributions that you will are willing to make in STEM field. You can also mention your community involvement if any and if you have helped others in STEM field.
Second question asks that how you will teach a technical topic to a beginner….so in this tell how will you conduct a class from planning to the last stage of tests and assignments. I wrote this answer in points like first I will make a knowledge transfer plan then gave an example that this is how will I explain and then finally mentioned after class initiatives like QnA, Projects etc. If you have ever taught any technical topic mention it(must).
Third question is mainly to judge your event management and marketing skills. Again I answered this questions in points stating all the methods that I will opt for conducting a successful event. Also if you have been a part of any event organizing committee in past mention that(must include it).
Video Tips
Since video is optional many applicants usually don’t submit them. And let me make it clear that you get three columns to submit your video link each for one answer. After writing the answers you have this chance to elaborate on your answers or to add any missed points in the videos. You can add your videos to Youtube and get the link of that for submission or you can add google drive(view-only) link for the videos. I have added three videos each one elaborating my thoughts on what I wrote in the answer section. Make sure that you adhere to the time limit mentioned(less than 2 minutes), don’t exceed beyond the time limit. Make points for your pitch as well if you are comfortable in speaking on your own while looking at the points or you can write complete pitch and read it out in the video.
Tip- Try to add other points than mentioned in the written answers and be confident while speaking. This is a great chance if video doesn’t go well you can make another one and add the best for final submission. Again get your videos reviewed by someone.
