Linux Scholarship Application Answering Tips

I have received Open Source Summit + Embedded Linux Conference North America Registration Scholarship 2020. Firstly go through the application form and understand what all things are required to be mentioned. I would suggest to copy all the questions to a document wherein you will write your answers. Make of note of all the things that you need to work on for your application to stand out.

Answer Writing Tips

There are two questions to be answered in the scholarship application form. Since word limit is not mentioned for the essay questions, try to write the answers not too short and not too long. What I have done is firstly I wrote my answers on the document and got them reviewed(very important) by two people. You can add the document view link to the answer sections or can write your answers there. Don’t copy content from Internet, answer the questions in your own words stating your experience(very important) with respect to the question. Try not to write repetitive statements. You can add links to your answers(like if you have contributed to any of the Github project, you can provide links for your pull requests and commits). Make sure there are no spelling and grammatical mistakes.

First questions asks about your involvement in technology and open source communities. While answering this question make sure to mention your part that you played in contribution. You can add links showing your pull requests or issues raised in a project. You can also mention the open source competitions you took part in or if not done any then you can mention small contributions like small projects done, your learning of open source.

Second question asks “Why would you like to attend this meeting?”, in the answer mention why are you passionate about the conference and what are you expecting from it. You can also mention that how will it help you in your future development. Try to give examples that how you got interested in Linux and also tell that in this field it will help you.

Now after writing the answers on the document get your answers reviewed by at least two people and work on the suggestions. Now when you are sure of submission, check finally before final submit.

After application acceptance you will receive a mail for confirmation and you need to fill a form asking about the events you wish to attend. Then you will be added to Slack Channel.
